Our collaboration with the Sussex Dolphin Project.
Research into marine mammals off the coast of Sussex has been minimal. With the busy shipping traffic, commercial fishery and high recreational use, it was presumed that this would be an area with low marine mammal activity. However, anecdotal and historical evidence indicated that this is not the case and the Sussex Dolphin Project are beginning to learn more about these animals thanks to citizen science.
Volunteers are at the heart of the Project’s research programmes and they have created a network of marine mammal spotters across the Sussex coastline. They encourage members of the public to send in sightings of marine mammals, including photos and videos, and details on numbers of individuals, behaviour, direction of travel and time observed.
Many of our passengers have sent footage of the fantastic marine life we encounter on our trips and we have a tremendous relationship with the volunteers and the organisation combined.
We run numerous trips in partnership with the Sussex Dolphin Project. Their expert guides join us onboard to provide a wealth of knowledge about all that we see (and don’t see), on our adventures. An extremely popular trip is out to the Rampion Offshore Wind Farm and full details of the charity can be seen by clicking on the following link:
